Energized for Term 3

As we settle into the second half of the year, we hope everyone had the chance to stop, breathe and reset, over the winter holidays. It’s been so energizing to see all students running around the hallways, catching up with friends and getting back into their rhythm. A very exciting term is ahead, and we can’t wait to make it one to remember!

This exciting term started right on the morning bell of our first day back. The student executive team has been working away on making an impact at our school, following the theme “Take the dive, start the ripple”. Our aim was to bring out the OLSH spirit, displaying constant heart spirituality, so we thought why not have a heart mascot!

Introducing our heart mascot!

A new tradition at the College that we hope will be used for many years to come. This mascot brings out the loving and lighthearted spirit that flows through the College, reflecting off of our pillars in the attempt to motivate our community to be heart people. This mascot will be found all around the place; school events, assemblies and lunchtime activities, bringing smiles and laughter everywhere it walks.

This mascot is here for the long run, a living symbol of the OLSH spirit that will continue even after we have moved on. This year’s cape reflects our leadership theme.

The student leaders' finger prints form our wave, with house colours, alongside our slogan and four sequin embroidered hearts for the four houses. And in the future, each new leadership group will add their own creative touch with a new cape that represents their vision and message for the school.

Last week, our year 7s enjoyed their inspiring retreat day led by Ms Donohue and Mr La Fouci. It was a jam packed day full of both fun and meaningful activities. Students started off the day with an opening prayer run by our new year 7 leaders! This followed into many ice breaker activities, some journaling, to then learn all about the OLSH story. The year 7s heard from our engaging Mr La Fouci and persevering School Captain, Keiva, about their personal stories. This led the students to make up their own story, using paper people to build up their character. The entire day was full of energy, with the amazing year level all displaying willingness, enthusiasm and laughter.

Term 3 is always an exciting time for our leaders, allowing our Year 11 Specialists Captains to dive into their roles a little deeper. Each Specialist Captain - Sport, Performing Arts, Public speaking and debating, Faith and Mission, and Sustainability - have a specific week in this term dedicated to their area. These weeks are full of special activities ranging from teacher vs student debates to a masked singer competition. Allowing any student to challenge themselves, or try out something new.

The leadership team can not wait for each week to come together, bringing a sense of fun to lunchtime and recess.

The team has also been kept busy, getting the ball rolling for one of our biggest days in the OLSH calendar, Feast Day! Our team is full of ideas, brainstorming themes, games, food, music and fundraisers for the memorable day. This day is all about celebrating Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, both the mission, the daughters, sisters and Jules Chevalier. A beautiful day that lets all members of our community learn about the OLSH history.

This time of year can sometimes be a rollercoaster as Year 12s start to approach graduation, something so far yet so close. We just wanted to say how proud we are of the Class of 2025.

In such a stressful year, each of these year 12s display unwavering love and support to the people around them, bringing genuine smiles to everyone's faces. This energy is infectious, spreading through the hallways, lockers and classrooms. To all our Year 12s, we encourage you to soak up all the good times, speak to others that you usually wouldn’t, continue to be there for each other, and get excited for what the future has to hold.

On behalf of the Student Executive team, we send a warm welcome back to everyone, and can’t wait for the term ahead!
