Celebrating 150 years since the foundation of the OLSH Sisters, our Religious Education classes prepared for the celebration in the weeks prior to Feast Day with singing and liturgy practices.
We enjoyed presentations from our OLSH Sisters Annabella (Tonga), Vita (Samoa), Emma (the Philippines) and Freda (Papua New Guinea) where the Sisters shared how OLSH College Bentleigh has supported their communities in the past. Each class also participated in some activities focused on the rich 150 year history of the OLSH Sisters.
During our Mass we experienced joy-filled singing, we heard prayers of intercession read in a variety of languages from countries where the OLSH Sisters live and work, we saw and listened to Marie Louise Hartzer herself and we sang with one voice a special song to the OLSH Sisters ‘Si Si Ni Moja’ (We Are One). A highlight was the presentation made to the OLSH Sisters after communion. The Sisters were each presented with a sacred candle and a lavender bag made from the lavender grown in our College grounds.
It was a beautiful, uplifting, joyful celebration in every way!
Colour, food, music and stalls created a buzz for our Feast Day carnival, raising funds for the work of the OLSH Sisters in the Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Samoa and Tonga. Our students, staff, families and local traders contributed greatly to make this a wonderful day for our whole community. We finished the day with prizes for the best dressed and a final farewell to our friends from OLSH College Enfield (Adelaide) and OLSH College Kensington (Sydney) who were with us for this special day.

Our Year 10 students had their Retreat day last week, spending the day with Chris Doyle from Karis Ministries. Here is a reflection from the day.
"During our retreat experience, we were lucky to participate in fun games and activities, including singing, dancing, communicating and meditation which required a lot of teamwork and participation. We had to work in small groups to brainstorm our top 100 things we were grateful for and got to share them with the year level. Chris is such a talented person and an awesome guy who knew how to get all our attention and play the best beats!
Chris really showed us how privileged we are and how to be the best version of ourselves! The stories he shared were eye opening and extremely inspiring to us all and it motivated us to spread love to all. It was a great retreat that brought the year level lots of joy as we had to work together and communicate even if we didn't know one another. We all enjoyed our experience, and it brought us together as a group." - Genevieve, Year 10
At our recent Year 11 Retreat, Year 11 student Lucille shared a reflection with everyone about what her faith means to her.
"I wanted to talk about my faith and my relationship with God and how it’s shaped my life," Lucille said. "To me, Jesus is my comforter. He’s my saviour my best friend, He is my provider, and He is always listening to me. The conversations I have with Him are the best conversations that I ever have because I know that He knows me inside out, and He listens."
Lucille spoke about how she has grown as a person in the last few years and she encouraged her peers to seek their purpose and surround themselves with friends who will lead you towards that.
You can read the full version of Lucille's reflection here.
