Semester 1 drawing to a close

Today was the start of our senior exams with the Year 11 completing their English exam. Over the next week, students will work towards completing the end of Semester exams.

Often, we get stuck thinking about the results of the exams and assessments and forget that the process of learning is the most important part of our classes. Whether you finish with an A+ or a C+, what we push for is individual growth. Whether it is the senior exams or junior assessments at the end of Semester, teachers are designing tasks and opportunities for students to succeed.

With our Semester 2 classes starting on June 18, we should be reviewing our learning goals from Semester 1 and designing the next challenge in Semester 2.

General Achievement Test (GAT)

Our Unit 3/4 students in VCE and VCEVM are completing the upcoming General Achievement Test (GAT) on Tuesday, 18 June. Due to the large volume of students who will be completing the GAT in multiple venues across the school, the following arrangements will be in place on that day:

  • Years 7 classes will be run on campus and in the year 7 classrooms. During lunch, students will not be able to access the Hall Courtyard.
  • Issoudun students have excursions booked as part of the Nous Somme and Je Suis programs. An Operoo will provide further details of the excursion.
  • Year 8 & 10 students will have a ‘learn from home’ day. Teachers and students will log onto Zoom and classes will be completed remotely. If you require your daughter to attend school on that day, please contact your daughter’s Head of House to discuss.
  • All VCE classes will not run on Tuesday 18 June due to the high number of year 11 students who accelerate into a Unit 3/4 class. If your daughter does not complete a unit 3 class and you require your daughter to attend school on that day to study in the library, please contact your daughter’s Head of House.

Thank you for your continued trust and support of the College, and the for the support of our Senior students completing the GAT.

Our Unit 1&2 VCE Legal Studies students visited the Moorabbin Law Courts last week, observing criminal law cases and relating the content back to what they have been learning about in this unit.

This term our Year 7s have been studying various forms of poetry and poetic devices. They have read and discussed a number of poems from different authors, styles and cultures, and looked at the meaning behind several poems. The students then spent time learning how to recite poetry in way that captures the attention of others, such as using props and expression.

Our VCE Geography students ventured to Booran Reserve this week for a fieldwork trip to study the impact of land use change.
