Focusing on the journey as well as the goal

What does good wellbeing look like? Wellbeing has three distinct elements of life - physical, emotional and spiritual. Over the course of Term 2 our pastoral care program across the school has focused on connection with members of each House and interconnectedness with year levels. Whilst the performance on the Feast of the Sacred Heart was the goal, it was the journey together as a House that was the most important. It has been a privilege to watch students in all year levels demonstrate their strengths and our senior House Leaders taking responsibility to delegate to our younger leaders. The spirit on the day was palpable and the support of one another demonstrated the great spirit that exists.

Often, we get caught up only focusing on the goal and we forget about the things that are required along the way. It reminds me of this story of the "Stonecutter’s Credo”- written by Danish-American journalist Jacob Riis.

“When nothing seems to help, I go look at a stonecutter hammering away at his rock perhaps a hundred times without as much as a crack showing in it. Yet at the hundred and first blow it will split in two, and I know it was not that blow that did it, but all that had gone before.”

Congratulations to all students for hammering away like the stonecutter, for all that they did to create a spirit of genuine support on the Feast of the Sacred Heart. You showed what wellbeing in action, physically being involved in the day, emotionally supporting each other and spiritually, living out what we are called to be “Heart People”.
