Our Year 10 Sport Science students have been looking at sports nutrition and the use of sports drinks. They tried samples, compared labels and determined which athletes they would be suitable for.
We are so proud of our year 12 students who have been working exceptionally hard throughout the year. As they now move into their own preparation for their exams, we continue to support them in the classroom and while they independently build towards the culmination of their secondary schooling. Our Vocational Major students have all completed their studies and should be congratulated on their own pathway choices.
Students in years 7 to 11 should begin to look out for positive study behaviours to drive their own learning. With only three weeks until the year 10 and 11 exams, this is an ideal time to re-write study notes, create a new study plan and set the goals for the remaining weeks of school. At OLSH, we view exams and assessments as an opportunity to demonstrate the wonderful learning that has taken place. We believe that de-escalating unhealthy stress is an important factor in being assessment ready learners. Studying for assessments and exams should be completed over weeks and months, not the day before the assessment.
Students in years 7 to 9 have four weeks before the 2024 Academic year ends and the Kickstart timetables begin. Finish strong in all that you do so that you set yourselves up for the next academic year.

Four of our Year 10 students attended the Goldstein Youth Forum in the Legislative Assembly Chamber of the Parliament of Victoria, hosted by Zoe Daniel. The forum provided an opportunity for the students to share their views on current issues and to debate with students from other local schools. Here are a couple of reflections:
“The Goldstein Youth Forum was an amazing opportunity to work alongside other students in my year to debate on topics relevant to us. Getting to experience debating at Parliament House was very exciting, as was meeting Zoe Daniel MP who oversaw the event! My favourite part of the whole experience was the friends that I made while working on our debate topics, I really enjoyed getting to know everyone.” - Taylor
“Zoe Daniel’s Goldstein Youth Forum took place in Parliament House to highlight the main issues for young people today. We were put into groups with others from different schools. In this team we were able to collaborate and express our ideas in a fun and exciting way. Overall, this experience was a great was to engage others in the topics that concern us youth.” - Gracie

Our VCE Unit 1/2 Drama Students presented their solo performances recently, with most of them playing 20th century designer Florence Broadhurst and Lucille was playing the spirit of the Melbourne Cup.
We finished Health and PE week with our annual staff versus Year 12 students volleyball game. Lots of great rallies and clever shots kept the game very close with one set won by each side. With the bell ringing before a third set could be played a draw was declared.
