Wakakirri tells the story of Raising Hope

After many weeks of story development and rehearsals, our Wakakirri team performed at the Frankston Arts Centre last week in the Wakakirri National Dance-Story competition. The team presented 'Raising Hope', a story of resilience and hope following the catastrophic floods in Victoria last year. Through dance, the team showed the storm brewing, rain lashing the land, floodwaters rising and the resilience in rebuilding. The team were awarded for their choreography, projections and minimal set design.

Here's what one of the team member's wrote about the experience.

"As a college community, we wanted to spread awareness of these tragic floods as they have had a huge impact on so many people’s lives. And their lives are still being affected today. Our performance aimed to recognise and acknowledge the strength of the many people who have lost their homes, belongings, schools and workplaces as a result of these devastating floods.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our OLSH Sisters, College leadership team and Principal Ms. Anne O’Loughlin, for giving us the opportunity and resources to participate in this incredible festival and experience. We would also like to thank Ms McNeil, our dance teacher, for the many hours of hard work that she dedicated to helping us to transform our ideas into a story that we could express through dance."
