As we reach the half-term mark for our students there are many exciting opportunities and moments for student learning. Across all year levels our Semester 1 assessments are being finalised in preparation for the Semester Reports. A reminder that while our semester reports will be released at the end of term, our main and most important reporting comes real-time through Canvas. For our students, it is important to have a steady and regular study time as they build their assessment and study capacity.
General Achievement Test (GAT)
Our Unit 3/4 students in VCE and VCEVM are completing the upcoming General Achievement Test (GAT) on 15 June. In past years we have completed the GAT in the Hall and use other rooms for special exam provisions. With our current refurbishment and building works in progress, we do not have the required number of rooms, so it is necessary for the following arrangements to be put in place to run the GAT.
The GAT is scheduled for Thursday June 15:
The following arrangements will be in place for all other students:
Semester 1 Ceremony of Excellence
The Semester 1 Ceremony of Excellence was originally in our school calendar for week 2 of Term 3. We have moved the Ceremony to 9 August, which will allow all Issoudun students to attend the Ceremony after returning from Hartzer. Further communication regarding this event will come out at the beginning of Term 3.
Moving away from the books and into a practical setting is a great way to test a theory and embed learning. Our Sport Science students have had the opportunity to do this in recent weeks, putting their coaching and biomechanics theory to the test.
The Issoudun Sport Science coaching students led a group of Grade 4 students in a gymnastics session. During the course of the session, they were able to select from a range of skills they’ve covered in their theory to apply to the activities being taught, and identify the stage of learning the students were in. Thanks to St Paul's Primary for joining us for the program.
For our Year 10 Sport Science students, it was a session at O’Briens Icehouse that enabled them to look at friction, balance and stability while skating to understand how to use biomechanics to analyse movement patterns.
In the lead up to Mother's Day, our Year 12 Vocational Major students held two Mother’s Day stalls – one at St Catherine’s Primary in Moorabbin and one at OLSH College. To deliver the two stalls, the girls had to plan the activity, consider budgets and resourcing, make the items with an eye on being sustainable and cost conscious, develop their marketing and communicate with stakeholders. A great exercise in real-world planning and implementation.
