Never Ever Ever Give Up (Winston Churchill)

On the last day of the term all Student Leadership positions for 2024 were announced. There were over 134 applicants across Years 7 to 10. Unfortunately, there are never enough positions for the number of students who apply. However, we are so proud of each student who took up the challenge, who took a risk and who put themselves forward for a position. Whilst for some students these announcements may have come with some personal disappointment, we must always remember that “Great things happen to those who don’t stop believing, trying, learning and being grateful” Roy.T.Bennett

So how do we deal with disappointment during this time? It is important to acknowledge the disappointment, and know that others especially friends and family share this disappointment with you. Acknowledge it but don’t let it linger. Recognise that you have grown through this experience and that you have learnt by going through it. Life will throw disappointments our way but it’s how we respond that matters.

Leadership doesn’t require a badge. When a student asks another student to sit with them, that is heart leadership. When students raise initiatives and implement them, that is servant leadership. When we offer to take on tasks in our classes, that is leadership. Our Year 10 students who initiated and facilitated the Share the Dignity initiative was a great demonstration of leadership without a badge. Their selfless actions have and will make a difference to the women and girls who will receive their bags this Christmas.

So, we must continue to remind ourselves to keep trying, keep believing and keep giving things a go, because when we do so, great things happen.

Introducing our new House Tops

We are thrilled to be introducing our new House tops in 2024, featuring our newly designed House crests and mottos. The tops will be part of the compulsory uniform purchase for Year 7 2024 students, and optional for current students in Years 8 to 12.

House tops will be worn on the following days:

  • House Swimming Carnival – worn with College PE uniform
  • House Athletics Carnival – worn with College PE uniform
  • Sacred Heart of Jesus Day – worn with school tracksuit pants for Mass.
  • House days – special days designated each term for celebrations (e.g. Jules Chevalier’s birthday) or as a fundraising activity. The top would be worn with the College PE uniform. If students don’t have a House Top, they would wear PE uniform.

The tops may also be worn for part of the day for special activities:

  • Students vs staff sports matches
  • House fundraisers – only for the house running the fundraiser and only during the period of the fundraiser (e.g. recess on a bake sale stall)
  • As requested by PE staff for House-based PE activity

In these instances, the House top is only to be worn during the activity.

The tops are available from our uniform supplier, Academy Uniforms, via their website for $56 and will be delivered to the College in bulk late in February.
