It has been wonderful to welcome back our students to the 2023 academic year, with a renewed focus on impactful learning experiences. Our students have embraced the return to school and to classes with an impressive disposition.
As we continue to engage in our learning experiences, it is important for student to settle into positive habits and routines. With our day starting with Learning Mentor, this is a time to settle and focus into the day by engaging with peers. The routine of attending all classes and engaging in the rhythm of learning is an important factor in progressing student learning. Students who are able to attend classes engage with the content and gain regular feedback, providing the opportunity for success. For our senior students, it is important to begin working towards a regular study timetable and routine from now.
In 2022, we witnessed our students achieve many wonderful things throughout the year. We have so many different types of activities, clubs, and programs that students can engage with. My message for students this year is to throw yourself into as many as opportunities as possible and enjoy the process of learning. As we continue to pursue excellence in all that we do, our staff are here to continue to guide and support all students throughout 2023 and beyond.

This month, OLSH students enjoyed two cultural events at lunch time – the Chinese Lantern Festival and the Italian Carnevale. Over the course of these events, students participated in making lanterns and masks, and were also provided with tasty Chinese lucky lollies and Italian waffles. Some students dressed up for the Italian Carnevale celebration.
These events highlight some of the ways in which we seek to add a cultural dimension to our language education programs. In addition, by celebrating the cultural richness of the world offers great opportunities to deepen social awareness and understanding, therefore, to foster respect and open-mindedness for other cultures.
