As we approach the end of the school year we look back at this year with gratitude. Our life is often so FULL that we are always on the go; organising the next event, keeping on top of our work or school work, attending to friends and family and feeling that there is never enough time.

So we take some time to be thankful and to acknowledge the things we are grateful for. We are grateful that we were back onsite at school this year, we are grateful for the wonderful OLSH community that has kept us going throughout the year, we are grateful for all those that bring us joy each day.

This week we were grateful for over 120 students who put their hand up for a leadership position. We are grateful that they took a risk and wanted to serve the OLSH College community. Despite the disappointment that some girls felt, it’s important to remember as Ms O’Loughlin reminded us on our Regnet Christus Day of Celebration, to “NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, Give UP” (Winston Churchill) . We encourage all students to continue to reach out, to put their hand up, to be a part of the community and to offer their services to others. It is not the badge that defines us as a leader. It is the smallest things that we can do for others that bring the most joy and show true leadership.

We were grateful too this week for our 2023 Year 7s and their parents who joined us for their Orientation Day. What was most beautiful to see were the number of girls who offered to be a part of this day, and how proud our current students were to share it with our incoming Year 7s.

We are also grateful for the many gifts that our students share with us and the community each day. We wish Angelina Gomez all the best as she enters the Australian Dance Sport Championship this December. Over 400 competitors of various ages will take part in the competition. Angelina will be dancing in the “Junior” category. The three styles she will be performing are Ballroom, New Vogue and Latin. This Championship is a celebration of Australian Dance Sport and is where the World Representatives for 2023 will be selected. Best Wishes Angelina, remember that OLSH Girls Can Do Anything!

So as we reflect on the year, we ask ourselves, what am I grateful for? Who am I grateful for? A memory from 2022 that I am grateful for?

Joy is the simplest form of gratitude.”- Karl Barth
