Performing Arts

We have a busy performing arts calendar, offering opportunities for students to display and build their talents in all aspects of performing arts including acting, singing, dancing, instrumental music and backstage production such as lighting, set production, hair, makeup and costume design.
  • Musical and drama productions – each year we present a major musical production, as well as a junior and senior production. These productions are presented in collaboration with either St Bedes College or De La Salle College and offer students the opportunity to take a leading or support role, participation in the band or supporting the production in back and front of house roles. Participation in these productions see our students develop their own skills and confidence, and they are empowered to take responsibility for their role in the delivery of the production, providing a great insight into collaboration and teamwork.
  • Music ensembles – we have a number of choral and instrumental ensembles at the College, that have the opportunity to perform at College and external events. These groups include junior and auditioned choirs, a band and jazz ensemble. The ensemble groups also participate in competitions such as the Victorian Secondary Music Festival and the All State Jazz competition.
  • Instrumental music – we offer an instrumental music program where students have individual music lessons. A range of string, woodwind, brass and percussion instruments can be selected and students in the instrumental music program have the opportunity to join one of the music ensembles. Lessons are scheduled during class time and are offered at per term fee which includes instrument hire.
  • Performing Arts Spectacular – our annual Performing Arts Spectacular is an important part of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Feast Day activities. It is a student-lead activity that sees each house present a seven minute mini-production reflecting a given theme. The students write the scripts and music, lead rehearsals and prepare costumes and props. The Spectacular is a performing arts highlight and involves every student in the College.

  • Lunchtime concerts – we finish each term with a lunchtime concert where students have the opportunity to perform for their peers. Our Performing Arts Captain leads this activity and encourages participation in performing arts activities throughout the year.
