Thank you to Keiva and Gabi who represented the College at the recent ANZAC Day service at the Bentleigh Cenotaph.
In the last decade, participation in physical activity and exercise has been in decline. In this digital age, students are using computers and mobile devices, not only for learning, but for relaxation and recreation purposes. This sedentary lifestyle is having a detrimental effect on today’s youth. The key is finding the balance.
Research shows, that regular physical activity and exercise leads to changes in the brain. It improves cognitive function, elevates mood, enhances learning and improves academic outcomes. Playing sport helps students develop fundamental movement skills impacting positively on their confidence, self-esteem and ability to develop social skills. Parents play an important role in helping to establish positive habits that will benefit their children in the long-term.
This term has been full of activity, with highlights including the Athletics Carnival, where it was fantastic to see so many students out on the track and field, cheering on their teams. Year 10 students have taken part in self-defence classes during PE lessons, and College teams have represented us proudly in basketball competitions. Students are participating each Tuesday morning with fitness club. The school production is now underway, and all students have been actively involved in singing and dancing as we prepare for the upcoming Performing Arts Spectacular. It’s been an energetic start term, with every activity encouraging students to get up and get moving
In the Physical Activity and Exercise edition of SchoolTV, parents will discover practical advice relating to the benefits of regular physical activity and exercise, as well as tips on how to get their daughter’s motivated and moving more.

So let us always remember that “Exercise is the key not only to physical health but to peace of mind." - Nelson Mandela.
As the weather begins to cool down, students and parents are reminded that winter uniform is to be worn for Terms 2 and 3. Students must wear their blazer to and from school if they are also wearing their jumper. Your support with reinforcing this with your daughter would be appreciated.
A reminder that the College since the beginning of Term 2 has transitioned to the parent portal as the method for recording all absences from school. You can access the parent portal via the app on your phone or via the OLSH College website.
Using the App - open the app and click on your daughter's name. Then click on the middle icon under your daughter's details (the icon is a clipboard with a tick on it). This opens the absence notification page, where you fill in the absence date, time, type and reason. Complete these details then submit the notification.
Website - go to olsh.vic.edu.au and scroll to the bottom of the website. Click on Ametur and you will be directed to the Parent Portal. Follow the same steps listed above, in Using the App.
Any requests for holidays during school time must be approved by the College Principal via an email to principal@olsh.vic.edu.au.
