Welcome everyone to the first newsletter of 2025! Over the past few weeks, lots has been happening here at OLSH College, from the new Year 7s beginning their journey, to the Year 12s having a boogie on the formal dance floor. Already so much to reflect on and plenty to look forward to!
Year 7s beginning
On Wednesday the 29th of January, the Year 7s began their transition week at the College, getting involved in various activities around the school including; scavenger hunts, meeting their core class, setting up their laptops, finding out their timetables and lockers. On Wednesday they were also revealed to their Year 12 Big Sister in Learning Mentor, beginning the ‘Little Sister, Big Sister’ program for 2025. This program is designed for the new students to have a big-sister figure in their school journey, someone they can form friendships with and find guidance in.
The program has been an outstanding success, with many Year 12s providing an incredible amount of passion and wisdom for the Year 7s to gain. The fun continued for the Year 7s as they headed off to their first camp at Lake Dewar, where they got the chance to make plenty of friends, and compete against other houses with an original house chant. Sweeney took the win!!
Opening Mass
In our second week back at school, we came together for the exciting opening mass. Here we officially welcomed everyone back to school with the OLSH spirit, singing and dancing! The entire mass was filled with joyous hymns that were brought to life by the College band and choir.
New students at the College were formally welcomed, especially the Year 7s, receiving their house badge and guidance prayer from their Big Sister. The newly elected leaders throughout the entire school were blessed while receiving their badges. We wish good luck to all new students, and to the new leaders, that they embrace the journey and flourish.
Year 12 Formal
The Year 12 Formal on February 6th was an absolutely unforgettable night, bringing the year level together for a celebration filled with joy, laughter and excitement. From the moment everyone arrived, the atmosphere was electric! Everyone dressed to impress and were ready to dance the night away. The music kept the energy high, the dance floor was packed and the food was incredible. It was a night of pure fun, where friendships were strengthened, unforgettable moments were made, and the beginning of the journey of Year 12 was celebrated in style. A truly special evening that will be remembered for years to come!
Leadership projects
Our valentines bake sale was a sweet success! Our Student leadership team generously baked goods for the sale, raising a total of $747! All money raised will be going to a worthy cause, and we are looking forward to seeing the impact it makes. Students were also greeted with sticky notes on their lockers, filled with positive affirmations and words of kindness. It was a great day filled with lots of love and positivity.
While all the year levels are focusing on their new timetables, classes and best routes around the College, the student executive team have been enthusiastically planning and preparing the theme for 2025! Dedicating lots of time, creativity and passion, the team is now in the final stages of designing, and are eager to announce the college theme at the week 5 school assembly.
Many of these ideas and leadership strategies sprung from the yLead conference that occurred over the summer break. The executive team were privileged enough with this opportunity to step outside our comfort zone, meet lifelong friends, and let our creativity fly at the conference. We would love to express our gratitude towards them and everyone involved in encouraging the soon to be 2025 theme!
On behalf of the executive team, we wish all new and returning students good luck and that their first term is filled with excitement and experience. We are overly thrilled to spend this year together and can’t wait to share our vision for 2025!
