Harmony in collaboration

Following many fruitful years of music theatre collaborations between De La Salle and OLSH Bentleigh, the Music Departments of both schools recently decided to deepen the collaborative spirit that exists between the Colleges through staging a combined concert.

On the evening of Tuesday 6 August in the De La Salle Performing Arts Centre the singers of both Colleges delighted and charmed the large crowd gathered in the cabaret-styled theatre, with a program of great variety and excellence in performance. Following a program of two weeks of rehearsals, the combined choir was expertly led in performance by Mr Drew Downing (DLS Vocal Tutor) and Ms Kellie Mentlikowski (OLSH Performing Arts Coordinator), performing Science Fiction- Double Feature and Some Nights.

The premier vocal groups of each College also presented items – The OLSH Senior Choir (Chanté) delivered highly expressive performances of Bellbirds and J’entends Le Moulin, whilst the De La Salle Harmony Vocal Ensemble responded with evocative and stirring renditions of Hallelujah and Seize The Day.

Interspersed amongst these group performances were eight superb solos by Wesley Kim, Isabel Stewart, Skyler Sahely, Charli Arvanitakis, Poppy McLaughlin, Jordan Genovese, Ella McKinnon and Jonathon Paola. The high level of confidence, interpretative ability and vocal skill demonstrated by all soloists was remarkable, and indicative of the great performing arts talent that resides in both Colleges.

We look forward to the impending announcement of the 2025 DLS/OLSH musical, and the next edition of this wonderful collaborative vocal event.

Congratulations to our Junior Choir who were awarded Platinum, the highest award, at the Victorian School Music Festival yesterday. The choir performed to a panel of two adjudicators and schools from across Victoria and participated in a workshop with immediate feedback on stage from the Chief Adjudicator. Well done to all choristers who have spent many mornings preparing for this, and to their accompanist Kate Denmead and conductor Kellie Mentlikowski.

Hilarity and mishap on stage

We're looking forward to opening night of our Senior Production, The London Operation, being presented in partnership with De La Salle College. The students have been putting many hours into rehearsals to present this fast-paced play that tells the story of Secret Agent Thomas London, on a mission to protect a highly-classified and potentially-deadly device created by the eccentric Professor Ellsworth. When the device goes missing, London leads a team of spies through a series of mishaps involving a disastrous evening with the Prime Minister, an art heist, and the risk of everything being blown up at any moment.

Two performances will be presented at De La Salle College, next Thursday and Friday evening, 5 and 6 September. Book your tickets via Trybooking
