Reflecting on a great end to the year

The time has come to pack up our books, clean out the lockers, and spread the Christmas cheer and love, as we wrap up another huge school year at OLSH College. We would like to reflect on the celebrations, accomplishments and special memories we have all shared together. This year has been one to remember with the remarkable anniversaries; 150 years of the OLSH sisters and the foundation of the Daughters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, as well as the 200th birthday of Father Jules Chevalier! We have all been so grateful to be able to experience a one of a kind opportunity, allowing our College to grow closer through these celebrations.

The end of Term 4 not only encourages reflections, but also excitement as all year levels begin their new classes for 2025 with the kickstart program. Once the year 10,11 and 12 exams concluded, every student embarked on their new journey; finding their seats in a new class, getting used to the homework, organising their stationery, providing them with the familiarity and preparation to hit 2025 running.

The great excitement for every year moving up, is the space provided for a new year level to be welcomed into the College, the Year 7s!

The Class of 2030 (new Year 7s), recently had their fun packed orientation day at the College, allowing the students to meet their future peers, teachers and leaders. This day was filled with activities from plenty of subjects such as textiles, science, physical education, food studies and more, giving a taste to a day in the life of an Olsh student. The college warmly welcomes them into the coming year, and can't wait to begin the journey together, especially the new Year 12s who prepare for the big sister-little sister program with them.

For the student leadership team, these past few weeks have kept us busy, having the privilege to organise activities and fundraisers for the Advent Appeal. This appeal specifically raises money for the St Vincent De Paul organisation, funding for individuals and families that experience poverty and inequality. Every House, alongside our VCE VM students and leadership team, have organised an activity:

  • Chevalier - BBQ

  • Xavier - Ice cream Stall

  • Hartzer - Lolly Jar Contest

  • Sweeney - Bake Sale

  • VCE VM - Christmas Stall

  • Student Leaders - Advent Raffle

Together, these fundraisers encourage students to do something for others who are in need during the advent time, while also having a bit of fun and maybe even scoring some extra Christmas gifts!

On behalf of the Student Executive Team for 2025, we would like to wish everyone a safe, relaxing, enjoyable summer. We can’t wait to see everyone in the new year, ready to take on the exciting challenges and opportunities ahead!

Wishing all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
