New beginnings and planning for the year ahead

As we approach the end of another incredible year here at OLSH college, the time has come to farewell our spirited class of 2024. We have been fortunate enough to be led by these leaders, who never failed to bring the energy and an optimistic view into our lives. We wish them the best with their recent exams and to their new journeys and adventures!

For us, this new beginning started a few weeks back, at the Jules Chevalier handover of leadership ceremony. Here the Year 12, 2024 student leaders, whose legacy will continue to be treasured, handed over the reign to the newly elected 2025 student leaders. From here our adventure begins as the new student executive team!

In these recent weeks we have been introduced to the new role of conducting and planning our weekly student leadership meetings each Monday, with the first agenda being World Teachers Day. Thanks to our ongoing 2024 student leaders, we were able to celebrate the day with heart shaped cards spread all through the trees for our hardworking staff members, as well as some lovely photos of students and staff with the theme ‘Hats off to the teachers!’.

Following this, we performed our first assembly for the school as the MCs! Here we had the chance to introduce ourselves to the school with a few fun facts and our plan for the rest of the year.

This plan of action has to do with the theme of a culture shift in the online community, focusing on cyber safety. As we know technology and social media are growing rapidly in this generation, with this we tend to find many issues that can come with it. We want to put a stop to those issues early by promoting different themes each week for the rest of the term, with our first theme being, ‘Be Mindful’. This focuses on thinking before you send, and asking yourself “Is this respectful? Is this kind? Is this Helpful?”.

These are only just a few things we have been up to, in the first few weeks of the role. This journey ahead is so full of excitement, eagerness and love. We can’t wait to touch the hearts of others by bringing our own ideas, characters and goals to this new year, continuing to keep the OLSH flame burning and the pursuit of excellence in all students.

On behalf of the student executive team, Keiva Kell, Gabi Trajer, Eve Morphett and Lucille Moses, we are really anticipating the thrilling year ahead and can’t wait for all the love, laughter and joy that comes with it!
