Our Year 11s enjoyed a three-day retreat at Lake Dewar last week, spending time together on reflection and outdoor activities. They were inspired to hear from humanitarian worker Moira Kelly AO and participate in activities lead by YLEAD.
Here are some of their reflections.
"During our retreat experience, we were lucky to participate in outdoor activities, including tunneling which required a lot of teamwork and participation. We had to bring all the buckets of water through little tunnels, and by using our communication we were able to complete the tunnels together. It was a great experience that brought us together as we had to work together and communicate even if we didn't know one another, to be able to get out. We all enjoyed our experience and it brought us together as a group." - Georgia and Emma
"We were visited by Moira Kelly AO and Angel. We listened to their stories and journeys across the world and about the children Moira has cared for and adopted. Her story was inspiring. It really made us think about our impact on the world and on our future and how lucky we are to have what we have, like healthcare and good support systems." - Zoey, Emilka, Bridget, Isabel
"YLEAD was an amazing experience where the Year 11 cohort were able to unite as a group by using team building strategies and enhancing our leadership skills. The spokesperson, Zoe was a great leader and had all of us engaged the entire time. We worked as a team and completed various activities, by collaborating on our ideas and their implementation. YLEAD was a very inspiring experience and we were able to walk away with many life skills and lessons." - Ava, Sienna, Layla, Jacin and Jess.
"Our Year 11 retreat was based on the theme ‘The Heart Within’. We were encouraged to listen to and explore our own hearts – who we are as individuals- what we wish to achieve in the final year of our schooling and what we wish to pursue afterwards. On Tuesday night, Father Justin from Daylesford joined us and conducted our mass that consisted of a vibrant Gospel procession, choir and joyful songs." - Holly, Emily, Heidi and Issy

Our OLSH College FIRE carriers organised a sausage sizzle last week to raise funds for the Opening the Doors Foundation, an Aboriginal community organisation responding to the calls of Aboriginal families who want to nurture educational opportunities for their children in non-government schools across Victoria.
As a FIRE carrier school, we actively support the Opening the Doors Foundation. The foundation supports nearly 1,000 young people meet the cost of school-related items including uniforms, books, excursions and camps. The sausage sizzle raised $552, so thank you to all who supported this activity.
We are proud to be a FIRE Carrier school and to support awareness-raising activities as ‘Friends Igniting Reconciliation through Education’.
